Explore the past and the future of some of the world's best whiskies while taking in the scenic beauty and history of Tasmania
Tasmanian whisky distillation was outlawed in 1838 and remained so for 154 years.
In 1992 with the creation of a new law everything changed… Tasmania’s whisky industry was reborn and is now over 20 years old with nine distilleries operating and producing whisky in Tasmania.
With the natural advantages of pure mountain water, cool climate conditions and glorious fields of barley and peat, this boutique industry is now being heralded for creating some of the finest single malt whiskies in the world today.
Tasmanian Whisky Tours can take you to visit 3-4 distilleries in a single day, to taste up to ten Tasmanian single malt whiskies, to meet the whisky makers and to go behind the scenes of the distillation process.
The spectacular Tasmanian landscapes are the surprise highlight of this fascinating day out, from the Derwent Valley to the Central Highlands to the Tasman Peninsula. Seven of the nine distilleries are in Southern Tasmania and on each tour you will have the opportunity to visit the estates, tour the distilleries and enjoy an inclusive picnic lunch of seasonal local Tasmanian produce from the famous Wursthaus Kitchen.
