Maria Island is a World Heritage Area & National Park.
The Island lies 10 km off the East Coast of Tasmania, Australia, and is a 1 hour 15 minutes drive from Hobart.
No trip to Tasmania would be complete without visiting Maria. There is nowhere else in Tasmania where you can experience aboriginal and early European history combined with abundant wildlife and unique plant species all in one place.
Maria is a peaceful and relaxing place. There are no vehicles, just beautiful scenery, plentiful wildlife and deserted beaches.
To add to the beauty of the island, Maria has an intriguing history encompassing the first explores and then the whalers and sealers. It also has a convict station station pre-dating Port Arthur.
These days Maria Island is a National Park and has recently been given World Heritage Area status.
Maria Island Guided Walks was founded by Stan Ellerm to provide truly unique and exceptional walking experiences for local, Domestic and International visitors.
