Murray River Trails
EXPERIENCE AUSTRALIA’S LONGEST RIVER
Murray River Trails is the first operator of guided multi-day walking and cruising ecotourism experiences on an Australian river. Its experience portfolio comprises of ‘Murray River Walk’, ‘Murray River Safari, and ‘Murray River Escapes’.
Experiences depart from the historic South Australian town of Renmark, the majority taking place during a ‘touring season’ which spans between March and November. Guests can complete up to 14 km of walking a day, paddling, cruising, and a range of other activities and experiences. Each day, houseboat accommodation cruises to a wonderous new destination, setting the perfect pace and places to discover the magic of the mighty Murray River.
Murray River Trails operates in a high value natural area of the Murray River, within the Riverland Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, which is home to diverse wildlife (including 180 endemic bird species), ancient forests, meandering waterways, ephemeral lakes, and majestic cliffs.
Experiences available to guests booking with MRT are as follows:
Murray River Walk
The original walking journey of 4-days, 3-nights, where guests participate in groups of 6 to 10 people, as guides provide insights and stories. Guests complete up to 14 km/day of guided easy walking encountering diverse flora and fauna across a range of river ecosystems.
Murray River Safari
A guided 3-day, 2-night nature adventure. Here guests discover diverse riverine wildlife habitats including ephemeral lakes not explored during a Murray River Walk, introducing new sights such as Red Kangaroos, emus, Wedge-tailed Eagles, and nocturnal wildlife.
Murray River Escapes
A tailored 3,4-,5- or 7-night houseboat escape, for private groups up to 10 people. A guide helps manage the houseboat, whilst a range of optional nature, wildlife, wellness (e.g., Yoga), and food and wine experiences (e.g., Riverland wine and spirits’ tour) are tailored to each group.
We exist to help you discover the magic of this amazing river landscape, to learn the stories you can’t read about in books and to rejuvenate.
