The Pickers Hut is a stunning rural escape nestled against a hilltop vineyard, calm and luxurious with the retained 1930s floorboards adding a rustic touch to the high-end yet chilled vibe of every room. Located in a delightful narrow valley north of Hobart that most locals aren’t aware of, it’s a perfect base for visiting highlights such as MONA, Stefano Lubiana, Lawrenny Estate or The Agrarian Kitchen, all of which are within 30 minutes’ drive. The premium wineries of the Coal River Valley surrounding Richmond are almost as close.

Once back at the Pickers Hut the full kitchen and outdoor barbeque offer everything you could possibly want for self-catering, whether it’s a sunny evening meal on the expansive deck overlooking the valley or dining in the spacious double-glazed living/dining area with stone clad fireplace that’s perfect for colder nights. The generosity of the hosts was evident everywhere, and after two nights in this idyllic hideaway we were plotting out how soon we could return to soak up its calming atmosphere again! Brilliant for a special occasion getaway, this is also a great option for those looking to explore the Hobart region without staying in the city. 10/10
