The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from space, but the view is better under the water as you will see a wonderland of coral gardens and colourful fish spieces in the clearest waters on the planet.
The southernmost island of the reef is Lady Elliot island and you can visit it on a day trip from the Gold Coast.
In my experience, Lady Elliot is the most spectacular reef site as it is 85 km offshore and surrounded by pure ocean currents.
The further north you go the bigger the reef gets and there are so many wonderful locations to view this natural wonder.
